Vendula Veselá x Wona Wena (b. 1991, Prague) is a painter and illustrator whose figurative scenes step out of the characteristic anonymity of street art and comics.
What she draws from pop art is its clarity, legibility and repetition with a shift of meaning. She does not aim to celebrate consumerism but to criticise it. Studying fashion design taught her a great deal about the figure. She is accompanied by themes of relationships and ethics, and she speaks about female expectations that can hardly ever be fulfilled. Through improbable, surreal contexts she unsettles the biggest clichés absorbed from American cartoons and animation.
